How to Add a Photo to your web page

This guide has 4 stages: Resize your photo; Upload your photo; Insert your photo into your text, Refine your photo.

Resize your photo

Photos taken directly from your camera are very large files when it comes to uploading them to the Internet. You will want to resize your photo. We recommend you not go any wider than 640 pixels wide. That would almost cover the middle column on our web site.

I often make a copy of the photo file I want to work with -to change the size or crop off extraneous background. This way I always have the original photo, if I want to start over.

If you have a program on your computer to edit images, such as Paint that comes with Windows, you can open it and click the Help button to find instructions on how to resize images.

As an alternative, there are many free and easy to use services on the Internet. Nothing to download or install. Just select your file, select the size you want, and save. To find these services, do an Internet Search for the words "resize photo online free".

Upload your photo

Browse and Upload

1. View the feature's options
   Look above the text box or in the right hand column for the feature called Uploads. Click on the arrow or the word to make the options for that feature drop down.
   
   
2. Browse to find the image in your home computer's folders
   Look carefully during this step. If you see the option for Attached File, skip that one. You want the use the Photo: upload.
   
   Underneath Photo: is a text box and a Browse button. Click the Browse button. A box will open to show the files on your computer.
   
   Select the image file you want to upload by clicking on it. Then, click the button for Open, OK, or whatever your computer uses. The box showing your files will close and the file is now listed in the text box.
   
   
3. Click the Upload button to send your image file to our web site's computer.

Insert your photo into your web page text

Set your cursor - Insert button - Refine the image

1. Type all your text. Then, click the cursor where you want the photo to appear.
2. Move back over to your Upload options.
   
   Size: some pages may give you the option to insert a small, medium, or your original size image. The default size, such as Medium, is usually a good choice for most photos.
   
   Click the Insert button next to the text box with your file name. Your photo will appear in your text box. You can make the text wrap around the image in the next stage.

Refine your photo

1. Change the size slightly
   Click once on the image to select it. Small dots will appear on the each corner.
   
   Drag the corner: Move your mouse over one of the corners. Hold your mouse button down and drag the corner to change the size. Once it looks right, release the mouse button.
   
   
2. Make the text flow to the left or right of the image.
   Click once on the image to select it. Small dots will appear on the each corner.
   
   Use the Text Editor: Click the Text Editor icon that looks like a small, green tree. A small box opens with more options.
   
   Alignment: Do you want the image to move to the Left of the text paragraph? Select Left.
   Vertical space, Horizontal space: Adds empty space around the image. A number between 4-8 is a good choice.
